01 / Our Mission

To provide specialized and integrated technical consulting across the entire non-ferrous metals chain. Our mission is to optimize mining, smelting, and refining processes, ensuring maximum metal recovery and compliance with the most rigorous international standards, always focused on sustainability and technical excellence.

02 / Narrative

While the world stood still during COVID-19, Titan Engenharia took off with bold projects across Africa. Founded in 2021 by Marlon de Mendonça, a civil engineer graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University in 1998, specialized in non-ferrous metals metallurgy.

We serve mining clients in Uganda, Congo, Nigeria, Namibia, Venezuela, Bolivia, and Brazil. Our specialty covers non-ferrous metalstin, gold, lead, zinc, tantalum, niobiumfrom feasibility studies to full plant operation.

Strategic Context

Tin slag is a by-product generated during cassiterite ore smelting. Although classified as waste, this slag can contain significant levels of Tantalum (Ta) and Niobium (Nb)metals classified as Critical Raw Materials by the EU and USA. Brazil holds the world largest niobium reserves, with over 98% of global production, and a significant presence in the tantalum market. Utilizing this material represents a strategic opportunity: converting an environmental liability into a secondary source of high-value elements for the electronics, aerospace, and energy industries.

01

Gravimetric Concentration

Jigging, vibrating table, and Humphreys spiral exploit density differences between Ta-Nb minerals (5.2–8.0 g/cm³) and gangue (< 3.5 g/cm³) for efficient physical separation. Prior fragmentation ensures adequate liberation of target minerals.

02

Pyrometallurgical Processes

Carbetation (carbothermic reduction) and selective oxidation modify the chemical and mineralogical structure of the slag at high temperature to facilitate selective Ta and Nb extraction when gravimetric concentration alone does not reach required grades.

03

Strategic Outcome

Conversion of environmental liability into a secondary source of critical metals for electronics, aerospace, and energy. The integrated route contributes to supply security and reduces dependence on primary sources in Brazil and worldwide.

Conclusions & Next Steps

The integrated gravimetric-pyrometallurgical route is technically viable and economically promising. Fine-tuning of temperature, atmosphere, and granulometry still offers significant room for improvement. Recommended next steps: pilot plant scale-up, life-cycle assessment (LCA), and techno-economic study (CAPEX/OPEX) for industrial implementation.
